We often hear that it's important to specialize, and find a particular niche, but there are times when it's a better option to be more of a generalist to gain experience in more than one area, then specialize. And while you are at it, the most important word you must be comfortable with is YES! saying 'YES' will open lots of doors for you and your business, life, and family!

In this episode, we chat about why niching down in the early stages of your business might not be the best decision and how saying yes more often can help you to build your business faster.

Here’s a glance at this episode…

  • [02:53] We often hear the gurus telling us that we need to niche down. "The riches are in the niches". I share my experience and why I think it is better to be more general initially.
  • [12:24] How being a One-Trick-Wonder can be just as damaging to your entrepreneurial journey as being a Jack-Of-All-Trades.
  • [16:06] Why it is super important to try lots of different things as a start-up entrepreneur and how this simple three-letter word can propel you towards your purpose.
  • [22:44] Why knowing who you serve is crucial to your business' success and how you can get clear on who your ideal customer avatar is.

Exercise for Finding Your Niche

Finding the ideal podcast niche may require some introspection, exploration, and creativity. Providing a unique perspective on a topic, in-depth analysis of lesser-covered subjects, or sharing personal stories and experiences to make an emotional connection with the audience is crucial in carving out one's own niche. To assist in this process, Tracy recommends an exercise that involves digging deep, uncovering strengths, and assessing how those strengths can cater to a specific audience. Tracy Wilson strongly encourages aspiring podcasters to take the time to develop their ideas thoroughly, giving themselves creative space to create a standout podcast that resonates with listeners. By offering practical exercises and guidance, Tracy helps listeners identify their unique area of interest and empowers them to establish their podcasting brand.

Importance of Finding Your Niche

The vast landscape of podcasting has over 2 million podcasts, offering a rich plethora of information, entertainment, and inspiration. With such a vast and varied range of content, it becomes increasingly crucial for podcasters to discover their niche to stand out in this competitive world. A unique niche helps reduce competition, minimizes the chances of being lost in the sea of podcasts, and can even establish podcasters as go-to experts on specific topics. By addressing and appealing to a specific audience, the likelihood of gaining dedicated listeners and achieving podcasting success increases. Tracy Wilson advocates for the importance of finding a podcasting niche that genuinely aligns with one's passions, interests, and expertise. Focusing on a unique niche enhances the podcast's ability to flourish and stand out in the crowded market, notably when it targets a specific audience with resonant content. By adopting this approach, podcasters can gain devoted listeners and be recognized as authorities in their respective spheres of interest.

00:22:23 - Brainstorming and Audience Persona Exercise,

Brainstorm a list of topics you are passionate about and have expertise in, and jot down some potential subtopics. 00:29:46 - Avoiding PodFade,

Tracy advises against jumping into a saturated podcasting space and succumbing to pod fade. She suggests doing three exercises before starting a podcast and tuning in for future episodes where she'll cover everything from equipment to content creation.
